"Care-Free Fridays" Family Playgroup

For 2025, we are focusing on seasons, cultures and community care. Through sharing time with each other, we’ll embrace the changing of the seasons, learn about different cultural rhythms and holidays, and develop social/emotional awareness through basic tools and tips on self-care, mental health, and parenting.

This week is a special event to help us kick-off the summer season. Sarah Kleymeyer, Reading Specialist with CPS, will join us to share some really interesting science on how our brains learn to read, how we can support our kids in their development, and she’ll make it fun and interactive! On Thursday, we’ll focus on how 4-8 year olds develop and build on early reading skills. At our Friday playgroup, we’ll focus on how 0-4 year olds learn. She’ll give us great insight into how children are taught to read in school now, and help us learn to recognize early signs of dyslexia and other learning challenges. We really recommend joining us to learn from Sarah!

Join us in the backyard of Community Happens Here (6238 Montgomery Rd.) Park on the street or at the Walgreens nearby. We gather rain, snow or shine. When the weather is wet, we’ll have the option to meet indoors at CHH. Otherwise, dress to be outside for most or all of our time together.
