Join us for garden planting and more this summer.
Join us every Thursday on the grounds behind City Peace Church at 4229 Brownway Ave. in Oakley where we’ve created a Children’s Community Garden filled with spaces for kids and adults to engage with nature, each other, and their own deepest selves.
In the Children’s Garden you’ll find:
a full vegetable garden where we’ll plant, harvest, taste and cook with veggies and herbs
black raspberry bushes and sour cherry trees where we can pick-n-eat
a tree for climbing, accessible to kids aged 3 and older with their own caregiver’s supervision
a wood chip corner with sit-upon toy diggers, stepping stones, and a busy board to help kids develop practical life and gross motor skills
STEAM and literacy stations developed by public school teachers to help kids aged 5-9 build curiosity and stay sharp through summer
search-and-find activities, garden art and scavenger hunts that families can do to earn prizes throughout the summer
wildflowers, native plants, bird feeders, and a pollinator patch where we can forage, create bouquets, and watch nature in action
a full garage we’ve transformed into a nature play space with dramatic play, sensory bins, a full library of children’s books and parenting/self-care books for adults, and, most importantly, a coffee maker!
basic sports equipment for playing lawn games
water tables and a splash pad - come with an extra set of clothes on hot days (we’ll have extras on site, along with water diapers and wipes)
a picnic table and shade structure (coming soon!)
Free street parking is available on Brownway or Minot Avenues.
Each week this summer, we’ll use nature and garden themes to introduce self-care or emotional/social/mindfulness growth tools and conversation for parents and caregivers as well.
